Despite ongoing sticker shock for consumers and supply constraints in the Canadian beef industry, retail beef demand remained remarkably resilient in 2025, with Statistics Canada food consumption data reporting increases across the board. Meat, and specifically beef, is having a moment. According to Canfax, per capita beef consumption rose to 16 kg of beef (retail weight) per person, up 3.4% from 2024. Total beef consumption rose 4.5% to 954,815 tonnes (carcass weight). Higher beef consumption in 2025 was supported by larger imports. Read More
