Canada Beef was honoured to attend a ‘Canada Day’ event at the headquarters of Chinese e-commerce leader Alibaba in Hangzhou on September 3. The event showcased the launching of the new Canadian pavilion on Alibaba’s Tmall platform, as well as Canadian culture, lifestyle, products and services to over 400 million Chinese consumers.
In attendance was The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, and Jack Ma, Board Chair of Alibaba Group. Canada Beef’s Director of Business Development, China, Polly Zhao, was invited by the Canadian Embassy to participate in the event as part of a business delegation of Canadian companies whose products are available on Tmall. Canadian beef is available to consumers across China on Tmall Fresh and Canada Beef actively invests in marketing programs targeting Chinese consumers.
As affluence increases in China, the demand for protein has seen an increase with consumers wanting to include more beef in their diets. Online shopping is proving to be a powerful distribution route for Canadian beef to reach Chinese consumers.
Canada Beef continues to work with provincial partners and governments, and brand partners to drive demand for Canadian beef among Chinese consumers. This leads to increased brand awareness and brand loyalty, with the intention of positioning Canadian beef as a favorite protein among Chinese consumers.
