![]() The role of beef in nutrition for school-aged children Canada Beef’s Health and Nutrition team recently finalized a toolkit highlighting the research Canada Beef conducted on the nutritional status of school-aged children in Canada. This review started as a result of the consultation on Canada’s proposed National School Food Policy. The Role of Beef in School-aged Children’s Nutrition in Canada toolkit identifies significant diet quality issues among school-age children relevant to school food programs and kids’ diet patterns overall. It was developed based on the research from an extensive White Paper Canada Beef wrote two years ago in contemplation of the government’s national school food policy. Among the many findings was that the diets of Canadian school-aged kids and teens are generally poor, and iron, zinc, and vitamin B12 remain nutrients of concern. The user-friendly toolkit distills the research findings about beef’s place in school-aged children’s diets into usable messages and images. The context is school food programs, but the findings extend beyond that. It is a public-facing document to be shared with provincial partners and industry stakeholders.
