A story of partnership & pairing for good food and a better planet Canada Beef recently partnered with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) to feature a full-page advertorial in the Spring edition of the LCBO Food & Drink Magazine. Food & Drink is a high-end foodie magazine reaching over 2.1 million Ontario consumers. The story featured fifth generation beef farmer Jay Lewis of Lewis Land & Stock (Holstein, ON), and Todd Lewin, President and co-owner of Muskoka Brewery (Bracebridge ON), and explored how farmers and ranchers partner with breweries to produce great beef and beer while reducing food waste through feeding distillers grain to cattle. The story highlighted that an estimated 58% of all food produced in Canada—roughly 35.5 million tonnes—is lost or wasted each year. This food waste contributes to an estimated 56.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide-equivalent emissions released into the air. The story reinforced that the Canadian beef industry plays an important role in helping to limit the amount of food waste that ends up in landfills while providing one of nature’s most powerful, nourishing protein foods – beef. The article celebrated two classic pairings: cattle production and brewing, and beef and beer. The advertorial included a call to action to visit the Canadian beef website to learn more about the beef industry’s commitment to stewardship and to access four beef and beer recipe pairings.
