Canada Beef’s innovative point of purchase (POP) toolkits are rolling out to small or independent retailers implementing the first phase of the Canadian Beef Information Gateway (Gateway) in their meat cases. To date, 90 retail clients representing nearly 200 store locations have ordered the kits, which support the initial Canadian beef branded edition of the Gateway designed for local retailers and those looking for quick-to-implement solutions. Among these retailers is Denninger’s Foods of the World, a specialty food producer with five retail locations in Ontario. An early adopter, Denninger’s was one of the first retailers with multiple locations to participate in the launch of the first phase of the Gateway. Nathalie Coutayar, who manages merchandising for the chain, appreciates the Gateway’s blend of convenience and information. “I love that it has cooking recommendations for every cut. Even part-time staff at the store can make recommendations using the QR Code - all the information is there,” she said. Nick Chirichella, director, channel marketing at Canada Beef, visited Denninger’s retail locations during the launch and had the opportunity to visit with shoppers. Customers commented that the information was helpful and convenient, and they appreciated the inclusion of nutritional information in the Gateway as it saved them from looking for it online. Another appreciated the recommended cooking times for roasts - as (like many Canadians) they said they never know how long or what temperature to set their oven at. “Shoppers were interested in cooking methods, recipes and nutritional information,” Chirichella said. ”We believe the Gateway can contribute to enhanced satisfaction with Canadian beef and that is a great outcome for our industry and consumers alike.” As noted in our last issue, the Canada Beef developed POP items are assembled into four kits and are available free of charge to retailers. The scannable codes on the POP items link to the Gateway platform’s information for specific beef cuts and related recipes, instructional videos, cooking methods, nutrition information, and more to support an outstanding beef experience. Future phases of the Gateway will feature co-branded partnerships with national retail banners that incorporate customizable content. A French version of the Gateway resources will be made available later in 2022. Back to main page ROD KONING Executive Director, Channel Marketing NICK CHIRICHELLA Director, Channel Marketing |
