Canadian meat delegation visits Korea and Japan
Canada’s Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, the President of the Canadian Cattle Association, Nathan Phinney, and other leaders from the Canadian meat industry visited Korea and Japan in early November.

Staff from Canada Beef International Institute (CBII) Korea attended as the group visited Homeplus, one of the largest retail chains in Korea with 130+ stores, for an in-store Canadian meat promotion, and participated in other events on the Korean leg of the delegation’s trip. Staff from CBII Japan participated in similar events during the delegation’s stop in Japan.

The group participated in a media conference where Minister MacAulay emphasized the outstanding environment in which cattle are raised in Canada, including wide-open grasslands and clean water. He urged Korean and Japanese consumers to try safe and high-quality Canadian beef.

The Embassy of Canada hosted a network reception in both markets for the Minister and the delegation, where Canadian beef dishes were served. These events supported Canadian beef brand recognition and created positive awareness among the target audiences.

Canada Beef Seminar in Osaka
CBII Japan held a Canadian beef-demand building seminar in Osaka on November 8. Osaka is the second largest city in Japan, with many potential customers.

CBII Japan Senior Director Ichiro Kiyotomi delivered presentations on the current state of the Canadian beef industry and presented the marketing programs and services available to partners. Representatives from Cargill Japan, JBS Japan, Ontario Corn Fed Beef, and the Government of Alberta also delivered presentations.

Representatives from the Embassy of Canada welcomed guests to a networking reception and Canadian beef tasting session. The event was well attended by approximately 80 industry representatives, and a number of important leads and business opportunities were identified. According to feedback from attendees, they were so impressed, they suggested it become an annual event.
