 Canadian beef cuts at 100 Soriana stores Organizacion Soriana is a Mexico-based company primarily engaged in the retail grocery sector with a network of 800 stores. Soriana’s price club format, City Club, has been a long-time distributor of Canadian beef cuts and an important source of supply for small businesses, hotels and restaurants. Over the last few years, Canadian packers have worked with Soriana to expand its imported Canadian beef catalogue to its supermarket formats to broaden availability to consumers. The program started earlier in 2022 and is currently being installed at 100 Soriana premium stores throughout 25 states. Customers will be able to identify, with the support of Canada Beef’s funding programs, more than 15 different Canadian chilled cuts through package grade labels, individual branded price tags, butcher section signage and meat case dividers (in co-participation with the United States Meat Export Federation). Canadian beef cuts available in-store for consumers range from AA to Canada Prime quality grades. The Canadian beef program was showcased during the Canadian Food Fair in Soriana with Canadian Government representatives in attendance. COVID-19 Update The rate of COVID infections in Mexico is rising. While the increase in COVID infections is still relatively low, the effective reproduction number of the virus is increasing. The average number of new confirmed cases per day (358) is no longer showing a downward trend, instead, it is staying at the same level and the percentage of tests that are positive for the virus is changing its downward trend to slightly upward. The Pan American Health Organization pointed out that it is likely that the sixth wave of COVID cases will begin in Mexico after the Day of the Dead celebrations and that these will increase towards the year-end holidays.
