Canadian beef served on dinner cruise One of the most popular dinner cruise ships, Symphony, is headed towards a full recovery from its post-pandemic slump. Canada Beef International Institute (CBII) Japan partnered with Symphony to promote Canadian beef on their menu. Called the Canada Beef Fair, the promotion runs from October 2022 to March 2023. Four Canadian beef cuts are featured on the menu including tenderloin, chuck eye roll, rib eye roll and clod. Symphony produced 40,000 copies of a promotional brochure that featured Canadian beef and included the Canada Beef logo. Symphony is a long-time Canadian beef customer and has promoted the Canada Beef Fair since 2011. CBII Japan coordinated cross-marketing activities during the launch week and shared the promotion via Instagram and Facebook stories and posts from each organization’s account. Restaurant sales in September were up 19.7% year-over-year although still down 5.9% from 2019. More restaurants than in the previous two years are planning to open their doors on Christmas Day due to increasing demand from diners. Symphony will create a special dinner menu for Christmas with Canadian beef rib eye roll for the main dish. Promotional materials and menus for this special event will showcase Canada Beef branding. Canadian beef food truck appearances The Canada Beef Food Truck appeared at six venues in October. These events ranged from community festivals to food markets. The truck was greeted enthusiastically and the menu offerings were well-received. The food truck will be visiting venues until the end of March 2023. Please check out the Canada Beef Japan website for updates on where the food truck will be located. Updates will also be posted on the Canada Beef Japan Instagram account. Japan COVID-19 Update As the number of new cases of infection nationwide continued to decrease, restrictions on new entries of foreign nationals were lifted in mid-October. Japan's government is studying ways to promote coronavirus vaccinations that target Omicron variants, as the pace of vaccination is slower than expected. South Korea COVID-19 Update The number of COVID-19 infections has increased from around 30,000 per day in October to around 60,000 in early November. Travellers to Korea are no longer required to take a PCR test within 24 hours of arrival and don’t need to show a negative test result pre-departure. Although masks are still required in indoor spaces and on public transportation, they are no longer required outdoors. Back to main page Japan Team Yuko Onizawa, Ichiro Kiyotomi, Takako Toyama |
