![]() Food Style Japan trade show Restaurant sales in Japan continue to grow, in part due to demand from foreign tourists. Sales rose 9.3% in August due to interest in cold food takeout items amid extreme summer heat. Restaurant owners anticipate the lift in sales to continue with the approach of the high-demand Christmas year-end holiday season. Canada Beef International Institute (CBII) Japan, along with CBII’s supply partners, participated in Food Style Japan 2024 which was held October 9 – 10, 2024. As Japan’s leading foodservice industry tradeshow, Food Style Japan provides networking business opportunities for food and beverage suppliers with foodservice industry attendees. ![]() CBII Japan launched a newly designed booth highlighting the Canadian beef grading pyramid and sustainability claims. The booth also displayed a wide range of beef and veal products, including new cuts, to raise the demand for Canadian beef. The show attracted over 38,000 buyers (a 5% increase over last year). Canada Beef promotions for Korean Chuseok Thanksgiving holiday In early September, two promotions for Canadian beef were held in Korea, aimed at consumers looking to purchase gifts for Chuseok, the Korean Thanksgiving holiday in mid-September. As one of the country’s major holidays, Chuseok is a peak season for beef sales. GS SHOP, a leading cable TV home shopping company, featured 2kg gift packs of Canadian AAA-grade short ribs. During two broadcasts, the hosts highlighted the quality and benefits of Canadian beef while showcasing several popular short rib dishes. This marked the first time Canadian beef was sold through the GS SHOP home shopping channel, attracting around 150,000 viewers across the two broadcasts. ![]() Meanwhile, SSG.com, a prominent online shopping platform in Korea, ran a 14-day promotion featuring four varieties of marinated Canadian beef products, including short ribs, finger meat, and flat iron cuts, all seasoned with Canadian maple syrup.
