Canada Beef at ABASTUR Trade Show ABASTUR is the largest hospitality industry event in Latin America. It offers attendees a three-day trade show featuring a wide range of companies from different food and beverage sectors all in one place. In addition to making business connections, visitors can learn about industry innovations and trends and visit more than 400 exhibitors showcasing their best offerings for hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, catering, kitchen equipment, and food and beverage services. There is also a strong educational component with seminars and presentations available for participants and attendees. This year ABASTUR celebrated its 35th edition and hosted more than 19,000 national and international buyers. Canada Beef partnered with three different distributors to increase brand exposure at their booths and provide Canadian beef samplings. Brand ambassadors Karla Senties and Chef Federico Lopez, along with grill master Chef Alain Cavazos, conducted Canadian Beef Advantage (CBA) presentations and samplings over the three-day show at Sigma Foodservice and Qualtia’s booths to support their Canadian beef programs. Additionally, Canada Beef visuals were displayed at Dipcen, a third distributor. Showcasing Canadian beef with these distributors attracted potential and existing customers, drove sales and reached different target groups interested in middle cuts, as well as rounds and inside skirts. Beef cuts demonstrations and samplings at the different booths included chuck roll, rib eye, top sirloin, inside skirt and flap meat cooked using different techniques. COVID-19 Update The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) warned that even though Mexico has seen a reduction in cases of COVID-19 infections, an increase in cases associated with the Day of the Dead and the end-of-the-year festivities are expected. The Ministry of Health in Mexico has called on the population to act with responsibility and to maintain sanitary measures (such as the use of masks) to reduce the spread of COVID-19, influenza, and other viruses and respiratory illnesses. Mexico has seen three months of continuous decline in COVID cases, with the lowest level in the number of infections, hospital occupations and deaths since the beginning of the pandemic. According to health experts, the worst is over in terms of a health emergency, but Mexico needs to continue containing the pandemic to avoid any new outbreaks. More than 90% of the population has acquired sufficient immunity to counteract the effects of the virus, either through vaccines, natural infection, or both.
