We talk a lot about using influencers to convey Canada Beef’s message. Influencers create content and use their platforms to share information they think is of interest to their audience. Third-party Influencers can help build brand credibility by sharing their thoughts and opinions about your product with their audience.

Canada Beef works with influencers who represent what we stand for—our goal is to make sure the correct information is communicated and presented. For the most part, Canada Beef works with food and nutrition influencers to support campaigns, beef information and recipes.

One of the influencers Canada Beef works with is Jill Harvie. Harvie is a cattle rancher and podcaster as well as one of Canada Beef’s advocates—see her at https://canadabeef.ca/jill-harvie/. With a background in animal nutrition and positions with Cargill as well as the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association, Harvie is now ranching full-time in Mountain View County, just north of Calgary.

Her interest in food inspired her to create her own podcast, titled Food Careers. Her podcasts explore a wide range of careers from gate to plate featuring guests from different aspects of the food industry.

“Food has a great way of bringing people together,” notes Harvie. “My podcasts explore many different parts of the food industry including production, manufacturing, retail and foodservice, cuisine, health and nutrition and more. If you are interested in food, this is the listening experience for you as we dive into what makes these food industry career options fulfilling.”

Canada Beef is working with Harvie on a series of podcasts with a focus on Canadian beef. Four podcasts are planned with three currently available—you can learn more about her podcast programs at her website at brightpasture.com.

In the most recent episode, Harvie meets with Canada Beef President, Michael Young to talk about his work with Canada Beef and marketing Canadian beef products around the world. During the 27-minute podcast, Young talks about how he got started in the meat industry by working as a butcher and in an abattoir, to eventually holding the top job at Canada Beef. After marketing Canadian beef, veal and pork across thirty countries, Young has lots of stories to tell including describing the most memorable meals from his many travels. He also talks about his proudest moments that, ironically, came during times of crisis and how his team pulled together and worked tirelessly to support Canadian farmers. In another podcast, Harvie speaks with Diane Rodgers, a registered dietitian, author (check out her book, titled Sacred Cow), podcast host and movie producer about the important part that protein plays in a healthy balanced diet. You can listen to it here.

“There is a lot of controversy surrounding meat,” notes Harvie. “Diane and I talk about the need for everyone to listen and learn from each other when it comes to what a healthy diet can look like and to have an open mind and accept that positive dialogue around our opinions is the best path forward regardless of differing opinions,” she says.

The other podcast currently available has Harvie speaking with two other Canada Beef influencers, Dara and Erin—both are registered dieticians, food experts and home cooks. They are also social media influencers.

In this podcast, available here, Harvie, Erin and Dara talk about how to relax when it comes to your food choices. According to the dietitians, “If you enjoy the food, it makes you happy and nourishes your body and your soul, then eat it and don't worry about anything else. That is the way to intuitively build a healthy relationship with food.”

The fourth podcast (released later in November) features Sage Watson, Olympic Hurdler and another one of Canada Beef’s influencers.

“These podcasts are a great way to deliver positive messaging about Canadian beef to a new and diverse audience,” says Michele McAdoo, Executive Director, Communications, Canada Beef. “Jill is a great interviewer and her podcasts are an entertaining and informative way to talk about beef and raising cattle from a different point of view.”
