 Canadian Beef Information Gateway Wholesale Edition coming to retail With the summer barbecue season in full swing, Canadians from coast-to-coast are more likely to visit their local grocery store looking for grill-ready cuts of beef. While this purchasing trend is welcome from a bottom-line perspective, the increased demand may present retailers with a challenge in terms of staffing. Recognizing that finding and retaining skilled workers is a chronic challenge for the sector, Canada Beef spoke to retailers to gain further insight into their specific issues, in an effort to find potential solutions. Those conversations led to the development of the Canadian Beef Information Gateway Wholesale Edition (Wholesale Gateway) to support the meat industry. The Wholesale Gateway is a Canadian beef training solution with comprehensive information designed specifically for retailers. The Canada Beef team is in the process of repurposing video footage for 81 cuts featured in the wholesale beef product catalogue into merchandising videos for the retail sector. Canada Beef Merchandising Manager, Todd Van Eyk, said the team is proud to share the first completed video featuring the Tri-Tip. The video is the first of 50 videos expected to be ready to access later this month with the remaining 31 videos coming soon. “The video content that we have developed is designed to be easily understood by novice meat cutters while also providing valuable insight into advanced merchandising techniques,” he said. “Prior to production, Canada Beef sought the expertise of industry leaders, leveraged in-store data, and spoke with meat cutters working in the field to ensure that our efforts were well-focused.”  Canada Beef looks forward to working with the industry to maximize the potential benefits of this initiative. The meat industry provides direct employment for over 65,000 people and supports 288,000 jobs in the food processing sector.
