 Canada Beef President Eric Bienvenue participated in the Team Canada Trade Mission to South Korea led by Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, Mary Ng, from April 21-25. Bienvenue was joined by Canada Beef International Institute South Korea Marketing Manager, YG Shin, and Canadian Cattle Association (CCA) President Nathan Phinney and Senior Director, Government and Public Affairs, Jennifer Babcock. Canadian beef was featured and promoted at the Team Canada Reception hosted by Minister Ng at Shilla Hotel on April 22 and at the Culinary Showcase event with the Minister, Canada’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Tamara Mawhinney, Chef Shin-ae Hong and Chair of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Korea, June Elizabeth Kang, on April 23. In addition to attending all the official programs promoting Canadian beef, Bienvenue met with the Korea Meat Import Association and Sunwoo Fresh Co., Ltd., the largest Canadian beef importer, visited Hanyang Hwaro, a restaurant chain with 160 stores that serves Canadian beef, and held a Korea beef market briefing session with CCA.   “The trade mission was a great opportunity to feature and promote Canadian beef to importers, experience how our product is prepared and enjoyed locally, and deepen connections to drive sales and awareness of Canadian beef,” Bienvenue said. South Korea is an important market for Canadian beef exports and Canada's fourth largest beef export destination. For the first three months of 2024 export volume was 4,124 MT with a value of $41.2 million CAD (up 20% in value vs. the same period in 2023). Under the Canada Korea Free Trade Agreement import tariffs on Canadian beef cuts will be eliminated by 2029. Back to main page
