 Ronald McDonald House Charities® Alberta (RMH) provides a home-away-from-home for out-of-town families with children receiving care in a local hospital. Preparing a meal can be a stressful task for families after spending a long and potentially emotional day at the hospital. Through the Home for Dinner Program, volunteers purchase groceries and provide dinner for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Canada Beef and the Canadian Beef Centre of Excellence (CBCE), in partnership with Alberta Beef Producers (ABP), hosted a Home for Dinner event at Ronald McDonald House in Calgary on May 10. CBCE gathered the ingredients and cooked the meal at the Ronald McDonald House to serve with the support of industry volunteers in collaboration with ABP. CBCE Executive Director and Chef Mathieu Paré, led the menu preparation. Dinner included Roast Alberta beef striploin with mushroom gravy, roasted baby red potatoes, steamed vegetable medley, Caesar salad, fruit and vegetable platters and a candy counter for dessert. Set up like a mini candy store with jars of candy, kids chose their favourites to make their own dessert. The team prepared and served approximately 40 dinner meal portions to Ronald McDonald House guests and another 40 portions into boxes for guests to help themselves later. Volunteers include Canada Beef President Eric Bienvenue, CBCE’s Yoshiko Taylor, ABP’s Brad Dubeau, Shelia Hilmer, and Taylor Kalbfleisch, and Lyle Adams (Alberta Cattle Feeders Association) and his spouse, Roxanne.   Canada Beef also brought a treat — 80 brown and white squishy cow toys — to decorate the room, and the kids enjoyed playing with them. Canada Beef and the CBCE appreciate the opportunity to help families in need with a nutritious, delicious, and fun meal provided by local partners and industry volunteers. Back to main page
