Importer and retailer from Korea explore Canadian beef
One of Korea’s leading beef importers visited Canada from March 26-29 with support from Canada Beef’s Export Market Development Program. The purpose of the visit was to meet with a Canadian beef packer and discuss potential new product imports to the Korean market.

A beef buyer from one of Korea’s large hypermarket chains accompanied the importer. During the trip, the delegation toured Canadian beef processing facilities, gaining first-hand insight into operations and discussing product specifications in detail.

In addition to business meetings and facility tours, the group visited local Canadian retail stores to observe how Canadian beef is displayed and marketed. These insights will help inform product positioning and marketing strategies back in Korea. The group also visited Canada Beef’s headquarters and toured the Canadian Beef Centre of Excellence.

This type of hands-on experience—inviting importers and retail buyers to see Canada’s environment and processing capabilities—has proven highly effective. Canada Beef plans to invite editors from Korea’s leading industry publications to further promote Canadian beef through targeted media outreach.

Canada Beef at Foodex Japan 2025
Canada Beef International Institute (CBII) Japan, along with Canadian beef supplier representatives, participated in Foodex Japan, one of Asia’s largest food and beverage exhibitions.

Canada Beef President Eric Bienvenue participated in the booth and spoke with attendees. Many productive meetings were held with current and prospective customers. Trade Commissioner Service Japan hosted a special lunch seminar for buyers during the show, where CBII Japan Senior Director Ichiro Kiyotomi delivered a presentation.

The show saw large crowds, with many visitors to the booth where Canadian beef demonstrations and sampling took place. Held in Tokyo area from March 11-14, 2025, Foodex Japan attracted approximately 2,930 exhibitors and 72,151 visitors from Japan and 60 countries and regions.

Canada Beef supports Alberta Premier Smith's visit to Japan and Korea
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith visited Japan and Korea on a trade development mission in April. During her visit, Canada Beef sponsored the beef for a networking event for 150 high-level senior executives in Japan and a luncheon for 45 high-level senior executives in Korea. Local representatives from Canadian beef suppliers, as well as executives from key Canadian beef import partners, were invited to attend in both markets. Canada Beef staff in these markets also participated.

During her remarks at the events, Premier Smith thanked Canada Beef for its sponsorship, the Alberta government’s strong support for vibrant Alberta and Canadian beef sectors and the financial support provided for Canada Beef’s Alberta Beef Export market development partner program. While in Japan, she also visited the Costco Japan headquarters and observed Canadian beef cuts, including chuck eye and tongue, on their retail shelves.
