Canadian beef display contest at Kanehide Supermarket Stores
Canada Beef International Institute (CBII) Japan teamed up with retail partner Kanehide Supermarket to host a retail display contest. Kanehide is a major supermarket in Okinawa prefecture, offering Canadian beef at its 60 locations. The goal of the contest was to promote the Canadian Beef Information Gateway (Gateway) and increase sales of Canadian beef in the region.

The contest centred around providing prizes to the Kanehide stores that created the best displays featuring Canadian beef. The contest, which ran from February 29-March 3, 2024, generated 30 entries from some of Kanehide’s largest stores. Stores were asked to highlight ideas for great-tasting main dishes to inspire customers to purchase Canadian beef. CBII Japan provided a new display kit that included Gateway labels to link customers to the Gateway Japan page.

Many entries emphasized the Premium Quality Grain-Fed Canadian Beef tagline and highlighted the Canada Prime grade. Prizes were awarded to first and second place winners, and all 30 locations received a Canada Beef commendation medal to be displayed on their meat shelf after this event.

This project supported Canadian beef brand recognition and created a positive impression for customers. CBII Japan received positive feedback from the Kanehide buyers who enjoyed the contest.

Meat Expo in Busan
Canadian Beef International Institute (CBII) Korea participated in the Meat Expo in Busan, Korea from March 7-9, 2024. This was the first meat industry trade show held in Busan, the second largest city in Korea, with a population of 3.3 million. The exhibition attracted around 7,600 visitors, including importers, distributors, wholesalers, restaurant owners and chefs, and consumers.

Representatives from two Canadian beef packers and their major beef importers/distributors joined the Canada Beef booth, showcasing Canadian beef cuts popular in Korea. Booth participants had the opportunity to meet with potential customers and develop leads.

CBII Korea hired a chef for the tasting demonstration to promote Canadian beef and attract people to the booth. The chef grilled and served Canadian beef four times per day, while presenting the attributes of Canadian beef and giving cooking tips to around 1,200 visitors.

This year, CBII Korea will participate in Seoul Food & Hotel from June 11-14 and COEX Food Week, also in Seoul, from November 20-23 to promote Canadian beef and support Canadian beef supplier partners and their Korean importers and distributors.
