Dietitian intern training program highlights beef nutrition
Canada Beef partnered with Spark Nutrition Communications to share key messages about beef's nutritional value with dietitian interns via webinar training programs that allow interns to meet the food literacy competencies required to become Registered Dietitians (RD).

The 90-minute webinars are designed to show interns how to deliver engaging and effective health and cooking information to their clients to help them build food skills. Presenters used Canada Beef’s Moroccan Meatballs with Herbed Slaw recipe to show viewers how to demonstrate making healthy meals while including key nutrition messages.

Spark Communications presenter Carol Harrison RD, noted that viewers come to see Canada Beef as a valuable nutrition and culinary resource to support them in their future careers. “This year, we added the Canadian Beef Information Gateway as one of the messages in the training and as part of their resource takeaway. The Gateway is a natural fit for this training which is about food literacy,” she said.

The training was available through 15 university RD programs including McGill University, University of Guelph, and the University of Manitoba. Six of the schools have made this training mandatory. According to Spark Nutrition, over the last three years, more than 600 interns have received beef messaging through these sessions. The participating interns are also added to the Spark email list, where there is an opportunity to promote other Canada Beef activities, including advertising upcoming nutrition webinars and available resources.

“We provide high-value training that weaves in partner messages in a highly visible way that is relevant, engaging, credible and always evidence-and-practice-based, creating a win for partners, interns and the internship programs,” said Harrison.
