CBCE provides dinners at Ronald McDonald House Ronald McDonald House Charities® Alberta (RMH) provides a home-away-from-home for out-of-town families with children receiving care in a local hospital. Preparing a meal can be a stressful task after spending a long and potentially emotional day at the hospital. Through the Home for Dinner Program, a group of volunteers purchase groceries and provide dinner for families staying at the House. The Canadian Beef Centre of Excellence (CBCE) in partnership with Alberta Beef Producers hosted Home for Dinner events at Ronald McDonald House in Edmonton on March 28 and Calgary on March 30. In Edmonton, the crew served close to 50 meals, with steak samplers proving popular. CBCE’s Mathieu Paré and volunteer Corey Meyer led the menu preparation. Meyer, owner of ACME Meats is a member of the World Butchers’ Challenge Team Canada (see article in this issue of Canada Beef Performs). Dinner included grilled steak samplers along with spaghetti with homemade meat sauce, Caesar salad, garlic bread, fruit and vegetable trays, and assorted desserts. In Calgary, CBCE chefs led the kitchen making Classic Sweet and Sour Pineapple Meatballs, Thai salads, fruit and vegetable trays, and another delicious steak sampler, with cupcakes for dessert. The Herbert family from Trails End Beef was on site at March 30 event in Calgary and provided their beef jerky for both events.
