Canada Prime now at Costco Japan
Costco Japan began purchasing Canadian beef for their Bulgogi (Korean BBQ) beef pack about 18 months ago. Featured in the deli section, it has become their best-selling beef item.

Canadian beef has had another significant breakthrough at Costco Japan. Canada Prime beef was launched at three Costco Japan locations in late February. Canada Prime beef has abundant marbling; only 7% of graded Canadian beef was graded Prime in 2022.

There are seven Canada Prime beef options available at Costco, including chuck eye roll Shabu-Shabu, chuck eye roll BBQ, chuck eye roll roast, chuck eye roll vacuum-pack, top blade steak, top blade BBQ, and top blade vacuum-pack.

Canada Beef provided the artwork and production for the on-pack Prime labels and point-of-sale materials to support Canadian beef sales during the initial launch period and into the future.

In early March, Canada Beef supported in-store sampling to raise awareness and increase sales of Canada Prime with a week of product demonstrations at the three Costco locations carrying Canada Prime.

Costco customers who sampled the product provided very positive feedback, with many adding Canada Prime beef to their shopping cart.

Canadian beef food truck appearances
The Canada Beef Food Truck appeared in various venues in January and February. These events ranged from community festivals to theme parks. Attendees greeted the truck enthusiastically, and the menu offerings were well-received.

Japan COVID-19 Update
Japan will downgrade the status of COVID-19 to Class 5 on May 8, 2023, placing it in the same category as common infectious diseases such as seasonal influenza. This change will allow the government to ease COVID-19 prevention rules. In a major policy shift in its response to the three-year-long pandemic, the Japanese government can now relax existing COVID-19 measures, including limiting the movements of infected people and their close contacts. The imminent downgrade paves the way for a return to normal social and economic activities in Japan.

South Korea COVID-19 Update
The daily number of COVID-19 infections fluctuated between 4,000 and 13,000 in early March. The government removed the indoor mask mandate on January 30, 2023, except for some high-risk places, including hospitals, pharmacies, and public transit. The government is expected to further lift the mandate in early May.
