Canadian beef promotion at Sunae Restaurant Philippine The Philippines is a country with a taste for Western cuisine, and Canadian beef is a popular choice. Sunae restaurant, a well-known Asian-inspired restaurant owned by the Nikkei Group, partnered with Canada Beef International Institute (CBII) Taiwan on a three-month promotion featuring Canadian beef. The restaurant featured Canadian AAA Picanha, Canadian Angus AAA ribeye and Canadian AAA bone-in ribeye on the menu from November through January 2023. The Nikkei Group hosted two media dinners at the Sunae Restaurant to launch the promotion. Philippines Chef Association President Chef Carlo Miguel participated in the promotion, creating an exceptional menu and generating a great deal of media coverage. Throughout the promotion, the restaurant’s social media reach increased by 105.5% on Facebook and by 56.5% on Instagram. Restaurant sales increased by 17.7% from November to December 2022. Given the success of the promotion, the Nikkei group made the Grilled Canadian beef Picanha with Kimchi and Canadian Angus Ribeye with Rendang permanent menu items. The Philippines is ranked seventh in Canadian beef export markets. Canadian beef sales to the Philippines totalled 2,722 tonnes valued at CDN $12,650,000 year-to-date November 2022. There are no travel restrictions for the Philippines, although a negative COVID test is still required for unvaccinated travellers. China/Hong Kong COVID-19 Updates In China, about 80% of major cities have passed the peak of infections while remote rural areas faced increased challenges during the Spring Festival. China is intensifying efforts to consolidate and build on its economic recovery, anticipating the economic rebound to accelerate in the second quarter of 2023 as China emerges from the pandemic. With consumption in recovery, the demand for meat is expected to increase in 2023. The mainland has fully resumed normal travel with the Hong Kong and Macao as of February 6, 2023. The border reopening with the Chinese mainland has been widely deemed the "biggest New Year's gift" in past three years for Hong Kong's business communities. The reopening will benefit Hong Kong's tourism, consumption, retail and catering industries. As the city accelerates its reopening with the Chinese mainland and other parts of the world, economists are upgrading their forecasts for Hong Kong in 2023.
