![]() Canada’s Agriculture Day is February 10, and Canada Beef is once again pleased to celebrate this important annual national day of recognition – which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. First off, a big thank you to all the hardworking individuals who’ve toiled to bring food to our tables over the past decade - and sincere appreciation for the incredible contributions of agriculture to our nation’s prosperity, health, and well-being.Canada Beef also acknowledges the changing face of the Canadian beef industry over the past decade. The 2021 Census of Agriculture reported an increase in the proportion of women owner-operators, in particular those managing one-operator farms - with beef farms and oilseed and grain farms in Alberta and Saskatchewan contributing the most to the increase in this category. In recognition of that, along with 2026 being the International Year of the Woman Farmer (IYWF), Canada Beef launched the year-long Meet the Farmer: IYWF campaign to acknowledge women farmers around the world and showcase the perspectives of women owner-operators in the Canadian beef industry. Launched in the January 2026 edition of Canada Beef Performs and on our social channels, the first Meet the Farmer: IYWF post featured Cherie Copithorne-Barnes, fourth generation rancher and a trailblazer who credits being mentored by notable women in agriculture with spurring the industry involvement and leadership she is recognized for today. ![]() Her favourite Canadian beef recipe? “I love charcoal-grilled picanha (sirloin cap) which follows the exact same recipe as Charcoal-Grilled Prime Rib Beef Roast for 2 from Canada Beef. Beef, unlike chicken, doesn’t require a sauce to make it taste great. A little salt, pepper and garlic is all you need.” February’s Meet the Farmer: IYWF profile – set to launch the week of February 16 - features an owner/operator from Ontario with equally great perspectives to share. Find more information on our website and follow along on producer Facebook CanadaBeefInc and X @CanadaBeefInc as we share the leadership, sustainability efforts, and impact of Canadian women across the beef supply chain. And thank you to all Canadians working in agriculture! We appreciate you. Back to main page ![]() GINA TEEL Director, Stakeholder Communications |
