![]() Canada Beef Activities in Vietnam Vietnam is ranked fifth in Canadian beef export markets. To continue driving demand in this important market, the Canada Beef International Institute (CBII) Taiwan/Southeast Asia participated in the Food & Hotel Vietnam trade show. The show took place from December 7-9 in Ho Chi Minh City, and the team developed several activities to make the most of this opportunity. ![]() ![]() CBII partnered with a Canadian beef supplier and two local import partners to showcase Canadian beef products in the Canada Beef booth. Working alongside the local partners, Canada Beef President Michael Young and Executive Director Channel Marketing Albert Eringfeld were present at the show along with Taiwan/Southeast Asia Director Deana Kao. The team was there to present the Canadian Beef Advantage to attendees and buyers. CBII also invited a well-known Vietnamese social media influencer for an exclusive tour and interview with Young and two exhibition partners. The live stream video received 24,000 views and 122 messages. ![]() ![]() During the show, one of the local Canadian beef importers hosted a co-branded Canadian beef seminar. Young and Eringfeld offered a presentation about Canadian beef attributes to the audience of foodservice operators and business owners. Another Canadian beef local import partner presented a promotion in December to further promote Canadian beef at their retail outlets; tasting samples were offered in-store to boost sales of Canadian beef. ![]() Watch the following video for a tour of the trade show. Canadian beef sales to Vietnam totalled 14,647 tonnes with a value of CDN $120,346,000 year-to-date October 2022. China/Hong Kong Update Canadian beef promotion at Corner's Deli Corner's Deli is a supermarket chain in China specializing in offering quality foods from around the world. Corner's Deli operates 11 stores in the Guangdong and Hainan provinces and sells approximately 20,000 products imported from different countries. In conjunction with the Consulate General of Canada in Guangzhou, Canada Beef International Institute (CBII) China partnered with Corner’s Deli (a new retail channel for Canadian beef) on a two-week “Canada Weeks” promotion in six locations. The promotion ran from September 23 to October 6, to encompass China’s National Golden Week holiday and featured Canada AAA rib eye and Canada AAA strip loin. ![]() ![]() An opening day launch with the Acting Consul General of the Canadian Consulate in Guangzhou in attendance featured a Canadian beef cooking presentation by a professional chef. Product demonstrations and tastings were offered to customers while in-store decorations and digital screen advertisements added to the excitement. The event was well-promoted with many social media influencers in attendance. The launch event and the promotion were heavily featured on influencer platforms as well as the Canada Beef, Corner’s Deli and Consulate social media; over 360,000 impressions were achieved. The promotion provided an excellent opportunity to partner with the Consulate to promote Canadian beef at a new retail channel and to enhance Canadian beef awareness via social media communication and in-store display. Over 240 kg of Canadian beef was sold during the promotion; the retailer continues to carry the product in-store. COVID-19 Update In early December, China significantly changed its epidemic prevention policy domestically, and as of January 8, it had also eased restrictions for international travellers. The easing of restrictions has meant an increase in cases, and the infection rate has soared in many cities. Consumers have reduced their in-person visits to retail supermarkets, and the demand for online groceries has increased. Foodservice take-out and delivery orders have also increased while dine-in business dropped sharply. Hong Kong has further eased its pandemic control measures by removing all social distancing measures except masks and eliminating mandatory testing for all inbound travellers. In January, Hong Kong reopened the border with Mainland China. Hong Kong's economy is forecast to gradually recover and grow in 2023 with the easing of restrictions and resumption of travel.
