Burger It Forward campaign launches in support of Canadian food banks
Over 90 restaurants across the country are participating in Canada Beef’s Burger It Forward campaign during February. The campaign is aimed at relieving growing food insecurity in Canada. As food banks struggle to keep up with demand, Burger It Forward aims to “beef up” the protein portion of food bank offerings while supporting locally owned restaurants.

Burger It Forward is a national campaign with participating restaurants from six regions: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Atlantic Canada. In the participating Atlantic region — Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick — the Burger It Forward campaign is partnering exclusively with Irving Oil’s Big Stop Restaurants to feature all five of their beef burgers in 15 locations. They will also enhance their contribution to local food banks through employee and franchisee-supported donation programs.

Each participating restaurant will serve up a special local burger featuring 100% Canadian beef. For every campaign-featured burger purchased, Canada Beef will donate the equivalent of one meal to Food Banks Canada, up to a maximum of 20,000 meals (based on Food Banks Canada’s meal metric: $1 = two meals).

The campaign supports restaurant recovery in each of the participating regions by encouraging increased traffic and Canadian beef burger sales.

Provincial beef cattle farmer and rancher associations in each participating region have joined the campaign by making donations to regional food banks with either ground beef donations or a cash contribution. In Newfoundland, Atlantic Beef Products Inc. will donate ground beef to the Bridges to Hope outreach program.

Joyce Parslow, Executive Director of Consumer Marketing at Canada Beef said the campaign provides help to those most vulnerable to growing food insecurity. “As a not-for-profit organization that supports and promotes nourishing food raised by Canadian farmers, a key goal of this campaign is to help support the efforts of food banks and hunger relief programs so Canadians don’t go hungry,” she said.

The best way to support the campaign is to enjoy a Burger It Forward burger at one of the participating restaurants. Visit burgeritforward.ca to view the burger map for your region and then enjoy Canadian beef burgers all month long and support your local food banks and businesses.

The campaign will be widely promoted on Canada Beef’s social media platforms. Canadians are encouraged to share snaps of their experience enjoying Burger It Forward burgers on Instagram using the hashtag #BurgerItForward and tagging @lovecdnbeef and the participating restaurants they dine in for a chance to win a $500 Visa gift card, as well as additional gift cards donated by participating restaurants.

Burger It Forward runs from February 1 to 28, 2023. Visit burgeritforward.ca for more information, including features on all the Burger It Forward burgers, a map of participating restaurants, details on the contest and more.
