![]() Canada Beef participates at Diabetes Canada conference Canada Beef’s Health and Nutrition team participated with a booth at the Diabetes Canada conference on November 21 and 22, 2024, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. There were over 1,200 attendees and about 40 exhibitors. At the booth, the team spoke with an estimated 200-300 health professionals. The attendees were primarily doctors, Registered Dietitians, Registered Nurses, and researchers. Attendees came from across Canada, many from smaller rural regions with connections to beef farmers or ranchers. There was much positive feedback about Canada Beef’s presence at the conference. For example, a Nova Scotia beef producer who is also a physician noted how pleased he was that Canada Beef was the only food-related booth at this conference. He was happy to see Canada Beef promoting the benefits of beef to this audience, both as a doctor and a producer.According to Karine Rekunyk, Canada Beef’s director of health and nutrition, this event was one of the busiest health professional conferences Canada Beef has participated in. The beef quiz was especially popular and was completed by most visitors to the booth. The quiz is an effective engagement tool that educates and dispels common myths about beef nutrition and agriculture and kick-starts in-depth conversations. The diabetes research overviews and the new diabetes-friendly recipe cards, developed specifically for this conference using Diabetes Canada nutrition criteria, were also popular. There was great interest in the new healthy aging resources, including Eat Well, Age Well and Stay Strong, Protein Counts. This interest demonstrates that the diabetes audience is a good vehicle for reaching the aging demographic, an important strategy for Canada Beef. This engagement drives the use of the Thinkbeef.ca Resource Centre. The following assets were developed or updated to ensure the speaking points, resources, and credibility were available to present the “case for beef” to this specialized audience:
