Canadian Beef Fair @Marae Supermarket in Hong Kong Canada Beef International Institute (CBII) China partnered with Marae Limited in Hong Kong to support a Canadian chilled beef promotion at seven of their premium supermarkets from September 23-October 6, 2022. Marae operates a range of food retail businesses with 10 of their stores in supermarkets or new concept food markets in large shopping malls and city centres. Marae began selling Canadian beef in early 2021 and has worked with CBII China since then on several Canadian beef promotions netting impressive sales results. The two-week promotion featured five Canadian beef cuts. Marketing materials included freezer wraps, banners, floor stickers, promotion flags, shelf strips, and foam board posters as well as online promotion via their website, Facebook, Instagram and mobile apps. The promotion also featured butchers and promoters located in-store doing cutting and cooking demonstrations with tastings available to customers to showcase Canadian beef. The event promoted sales of Canadian beef and enhanced awareness among consumers in Hong Kong. It was also a good opportunity to work with loyal supplier chain partners and end-users on a Canadian beef promotion. During the promotion, sales increased by 176% compared with the non-promotional period; customer feedback was very positive. CBII China looks forward to developing future opportunities to promote Canadian beef in more stores under the Marae banner. COVID-19 Updates The epidemic situation in China remains complex. With the number of new infections continuing to increase, the epidemic continues to occur in many provinces and has affected a wide range of areas. To effectively coordinate epidemic prevention and control with economic and social development, China recently released new measures to optimize its COVID-19 response. These measures include reducing mass nucleic acid testing and optimizing medical services. In Hong Kong, the local economy continues to be supported through the disbursement of consumption vouchers. The worsened external environment and lack of tourists have dealt a blow to Hong Kong’s economic recovery. Further to the relaxation of social distancing measures and quarantine policy for travellers, the Hong Kong government plans to lift more COVID-19 restrictions as it seeks to further open the city to revive businesses.
