 Canadian beef cuts at the MTY BBQ FEST The municipality of San Pedro Garza Garcia (Nuevo Leon) hosts an annual event for the barbecue community in Mexico that brings together pitmasters from Texas, Kentucky, and Tennessee to demonstrate their culinary skills with smoked ribs, beef, chicken, and pork. The event took place in late October amid intense competition. There were 4,000 attendees at the event including chefs, restaurateurs, grill experts, foodies, cooks, and those interested in barbecue. Live music, a rodeo, grilling lessons, a wrestling show, and a barbecue market were all part of the activities offered.   The four competing categories included brisket, ribs, chicken, and pork shoulder. Teams of up to 10 people participated in the contest, vying to be eligible to represent Mexico in the American Royal World Series of Barbecue. In total, 29 grill teams from the states of Querétaro, Veracruz, Playa del Carmen, Chihuahua, Mexico City, Mazatlán, Tampico, Tabasco, Guadalajara, the United States, and Canada registered to participate in the competition. Canadian experts in grilling were there to train and certify judges for the grill content. Canada Beef participated in the culinary sampling and co-sponsored, along with Sigma Foodservice, a team of 10 grilling experts who competed in the preparation of Canadian beef brisket and short ribs. The team also grilled additional Canadian beef cuts for sampling. The Canadian Beef Advantage messaging was shared through merchandising guides, banners, toothpick flags, and participation from the Mexico/Latin America office of Canada Beef. COVID-19 Update The number of COVID cases has increased slightly, however, the growth of the curve has not accelerated rapidly. The sixth COVID wave looks different from the previous ones the since cases identified are mostly mild and ambulatory. States experiencing more cases include Yucatán, Chiapas, Tlaxcala, Coahuila, and Baja California which may be due to tourism.
