Networking receptions in Japan and Korea well-received
Japan and Korea recently opened their borders to foreign tourists after almost three years of border restrictions due to the pandemic. Canada Beef President Michael Young and Executive Director, Export Market Development, Albert Eringfeld visited Japan and Korea in early December and attended networking receptions in both countries. Canada Beef International Institute (CBII) Japan hosted a networking reception at the New Otani Hotel in Tokyo. The event was attended by about 100 guests including importers, distributors, retailers, foodservice companies and supply partners.

The reception opened with a welcome from Young followed by a greeting from Minister (Commercial) and Senior Trade Commissioner at the Embassy of Canada to Japan Tracy Reynolds. Next, Eringfeld presented an overview of CBII Japan and the promotion and marketing services available to end-user customers.

The day before the reception, the Canada Beef team visited in-market partners and end-user customers to discuss current promotions and future opportunities for CBII Japan support.

Following the visit to Tokyo, CBII Korea hosted a Canada Beef Networking Reception at the Plaza Hotel in Seoul attended by 70 guests. The event featured the same format as Tokyo with Chargée d'affaires a.i. of Canada to the Republic of Korea Tamara Mawhinney providing the welcome message.

The two events supported Canadian beef brand recognition and created positive public relations with the target audiences.

Response to the events was outstanding. Business was brisk with a number of important leads and business opportunities identified. Attendees were so impressed they requested that it become an annual event.

CBII Japan and Korea also hosted a lunch meeting with meat industry journalists at restaurants in Tokyo and Seoul. Articles featuring an interview with Young will be published in each market.
