World Iron Awareness Week
For the fourth consecutive year, Canada Beef supported World Iron Awareness Week (WIAW), a global initiative created in New Zealand. Canada Beef joined forces with other industry groups through the International Meat Secretariat to build awareness of the importance of iron nutrition to human health.

The 2025 WIAW campaign ran from October 13-19, 2025, and focused on the iron needs of teen girls. Canada Beef used this campaign to highlight that iron needs for teen girls nearly doubles at age 14 and that iron deficiency affects one in four girls in this demographic.

Canada Beef developed an Iron Awareness Toolkit and research summaries for health professional and posted the communication support tools to Thinkbeef.ca. Informational brochures for consumers were also available at https://thinkbeef.ca/iron-matters/. The Thinkbeef.ca website had 7,554 visits, and 60 of the brochures were ordered or downloaded.

The campaign included TV broadcast spots in Western, Central and Eastern Canada. These TV segments featured Registered Dietitians sharing recipes and information on iron nutrition for WIAW and together netted over 1 million viewers.

The campaign had a strong social media presence across Canada Beef’s platforms as well as influencer posts, with a cumulative reach of 295,000. The October issue of the Make it Beef newsletter featured information on iron awareness and links to the Thinkbeef.ca website and was opened by more than 10,000 followers.

Additionally, Canada Beef partnered with ParentsCanada, which included an article that garnered over 1,800 reads, links to two videos with over 8,000 views, and an e-blast that was opened by more than 35,000 subscribers. This information, which will remain on the website, has accumulated over 45,000 views.

Canada Beef’s week-long Iron Awareness Campaign successfully reached 1.4 million people.
