Successful Canada Beef Fair at City’Super Taiwan City’Super is a supermarket chain with a focus on high-quality fresh food. City'Super is a long-time Canadian beef retail partner with seven locations in Taiwan. Canada Beef International Institute (CBII) Taiwan supported City'Super to boost sales of Canadian beef during this year's Moon Festival from September 30 - October 17. The Moon Festival is a major Taiwanese annual holiday—also known as the barbecue holiday. Consumers traditionally purchase food to barbecue at home with family to celebrate the Moon Festival. Canadian beef featured for the promotion included rib eye, tenderloin, striploin, short rib, top blade, and short plate. These products were available at all seven stores, and sampling activities took place at four flagship stores. Canadian beef sales grew 11% during the promotion compared to the non-promotional period. This type of event offers an opportunity to enhance Canadian beef awareness and build sales among consumers in Taiwan, as well as support loyal supplier chain partners and end-users. Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada meeting Canada’s Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, participated in a roundtable meeting on October 30 hosted by the Canadian Embassy in Hanoi. Major Canadian agri-food partners, including beef, seafood, fruit, and ginseng importers, retailers, food and beverage operators, and traders, attended the meeting. More than 20 people were at the meeting including representatives from Canada Beef and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Minister MacAulay thanked attendees for their years of partnership and collaboration with Canadian companies and then facilitated a discussion about growing the Canadian agri-food business in Vietnam. Feedback from the group about the Canadian beef sector suggested that beef importers and foodservice representatives would like to see more Canadian beef brands available for the Vietnam market. They also shared their appreciation for ongoing Canadian beef promotional support. In-market beef partners are hoping for more investment from the Canadian Government and looking forward to promotional support from CBII Taiwan. The meeting provided the opportunity for Minister MacAulay, CBII Taiwan, as well as other Canadian agri-food sectors to thank their partners in Vietnam, as well as solicit their feedback on expanding Canadian business in Vietnam.
