Canada Beef continues to collaborate with Farm Boy, a grocery retailer in Ontario, which launched its Farm Boy-branded Beef Information Gateway this summer.

Farm Boy has come a long way since starting in 1981, with one retail store in Cornwall, Ontario. Today, Farm Boy has 50 locations across Ontario, and more are on the way. For its Gateway, Farm Boy has incorporated QR codes on its packages of fresh Canadian beef. These codes provide Farm Boy shoppers with direct access to the Gateway for an enhanced shopping experience. Customers simply scan the QR codes with a smartphone to discover all the beef information the Gateway has to offer.

Kelly Hyde, director of the Canadian Beef Information Gateway at Canada Beef, noted that Farm Boy adds value and engages consumers by incorporating contests to promote their Gateway. “In addition to the on-pack labels, Farm Boy hosted two contests aimed at driving customers to the fresh beef section in their stores and to the Gateway, where the sign-up page for the contests was located.”

The first contest took place in July as part of the launch of the Farm Boy Gateway, followed by the second contest in September/October. Farm Boy promoted these contests and the Gateway via social media and created videos on Instagram. In total, they received over 30,000 views. To watch the reel, click here.

Hyde added that participants had the chance to win Farm Boy gift cards as incentives for entering the contest. “They were also given the option to sign up for Canada Beef’s Make it Beef e-newsletter, allowing subscribers to hear from and engage with Canada Beef on a regular basis,” she said. As a result of the contests, Canada Beef gained an additional 1,300 subscribers to the consumer-facing Make it Beef Club.

Matt Dill, director of category management – fresh at Farm Boy, said the company is always looking for ways to enhance their customers’ shopping experience. “By partnering with Canada Beef, our customers can quickly access everything they need to know about our premium beef—cuts, recipes, nutrition, and even cooking tips—just by scanning a QR code. It’s a simple way to help our customers feel great about their meals and to get the most out of their Farm Boy experience,” he said.

Canada Beef will collaborate with Farm Boy on a third contest that’s planned for February 2025. To access Farm Boy’s Beef Information Gateway, click here.
