#shecooksBEEF – Livestream cooking shows
Virtual food experiences continue to be an excellent way to stay connected with target audiences, especially now that cooking classes have become so popular—including online and livestream events.

Taking a cooking class over Zoom has become acceptable for those interested in perfecting their cooking skills. With this in mind, the Canada Beef Mexico and Latin American office (LATAM) along with Canadian beef brand ambassadors and in cooperation with distributor Carnes Premium XO created three livestream events focused on the best cooking techniques for specific beef cuts.

For this series, the Canada Beef host from previous livestream events Karla Senties switched places with Chef Lopez and demonstrated step-by-step methods for cooking different beef cuts. Each cut featured new recipes utilizing cooking methods suggested by Chef Lopez.

The host showed the audience how to cook a tenderloin in the oven, (beef wellington recipe), brisket in the crock-pot (stuffed ravioli, panini and sliced brisket recipes) and flap meat in the skillet (bavette roll, skewers and stir-fry recipes). Live streams were viewed by an average of 100 people each and each event was further shared through the Canada Beef LATAM YouTube channel, where the brisket episode was viewed by 19,000 people. Carnes Premium XO reported an increased interest in flap meat and brisket on their e-commerce channels.

COVID-19 update
A dozen Mexican states are suffering an increase in infections due to a third wave of COVID-19. As of August 8, Mexico has confirmed almost three million cases of COVID-19 within its borders since the beginning of the pandemic. Mexican authorities report widespread community transmission, thousands of cases of infection and increased numbers of patients requiring hospitalization. In July, federal health institutions started converting COVID areas to non-COVID areas to re-establish the usual health services in the medical units, but now, the third wave is quickly surpassing the number of cases registered in the second wave, and hospitalizations are starting to rise as infections expand rapidly and the health system grows more stressed.

Over the first nine days of August, there were more reported cases than in the previous eight months of the pandemic. The country added three consecutive days of daily reports with more than 20,000 confirmed cases. The states with the highest number of active COVID cases in descending order are: Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Nuevo León, Jalisco, Veracruz, Tabasco, San Luis, Guerrero, Puebla, Quintana Roo and Nayarit. Sinaloa is the only state with red traffic light status, but this is the first time since February 2021 that any state has been federally designated as being in lockdown status. Only three states—Aguascalientes, Chiapas, and Coahuila—are in green status, indicating a return to the new normal, at which point social and work activities are allowed without restrictions. As of July 26, 2021, 48 % of Mexico’s adult population had been vaccinated.
