 Gateway links popular with consumers Canada Beef launched the Canadian Beef Information Gateway (Gateway) to consumers from January through March 2022 with advertisements placed in popular consumer publications. The magazines chosen included food and lifestyle publications such as the Liquor Control Board of Ontario’s very popular Food & Drink magazine, national publications like Canadian Living and House & Home as well as regional lifestyle magazines like Savour Calgary and East Coast Living. Well-read national publications such as Reader’s Digest and Maclean’s magazine and digital publications like Foodism Toronto were also part of the ad campaign. The double-page spreads featured eye-catching creative and information describing how the Gateway works, as well as five QR codes that consumers could scan to experience first-hand the new Gateway website. One of the QR codes linked to the Gateway main page; the other four QR codes linked consumers directly to one of four beef cut categories on the page. Within each beef category is a list of top beef cuts. Consumers can then select the cut of beef they are interested in learning about and access cooking methods and recipes with videos and nutrition.  The Digital Marketing team tracks the QR codes to calculate the number of scans for each code. During the campaign, there were over 28,000 scans of the five codes. The QR code for roasts was the most popular with about one-third of the scans directed to that page. Given the time of year the print ad was in circulation, many consumers were preparing pot roasts and oven roasts. Website metrics demonstrate that roasts are the most popular search term. Joyce Parslow, executive director, consumer marketing, Canada Beef, said that the results of this campaign demonstrated that consumers are interested in the Gateway. “Consumers saw the ad and scanned the QR codes for more information and to find recipe inspiration,” she said.
