New podcasts explore the essential role of protein for bone health Osteoporosis Canada (OC) recently added protein as a required nutrient for bone health to reflect the vital role protein plays in building and maintaining bones throughout life. To support the dissemination of this latest information, Thinkbeef.ca worked with OC to develop two podcasts featuring prominent experts on the topics of bone health and protein. The podcasts highlight the fact that bodies need protein to fuel hundreds of activities, like making blood cells, immune function, and tissue repair. Unless a dietary source is provided, bodies must break down their own muscle or tissue to fulfill metabolic requirements. Since about one-half of bone volume is protein, not eating enough dietary protein can affect bone health, as the protein in bones could be compromised. These podcasts are part of a long-standing partnership with OC to promote the beneficial role of beef for bone health. They are available on podcast platforms and the OC website. To date, the two podcasts have received 5,435 streams.
