Canadian Ambassador to Japan visits Canada Beef headquarters Canada Beef was honoured to receive a visit from the Ambassador of Canada to Japan Mr. Ian McKay. The visit took place May 12, 2022, at Canada Beef’s Calgary office. Canada Beef President Michael Young (shown left) and Executive Director of Export Market Development, Albert Eringfeld (right), met with Ambassador McKay (centre) to discuss several topics including the beef industry in Canada, Canadian beef trade with Japan and other countries, and Canada Beef marketing initiatives in the Japanese market. They also discussed future areas of collaboration between the Canadian Embassy and the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (CTCS) in Japan. Collaboration with the Canadian government and the CTCS is one of the tactics utilized in Canada Beef’s export market development strategy. The CTCS has a network of trade commissioners located in over 160 cities worldwide. Canada Beef collaborates with this service on various marketing initiatives and events to promote Canadian food products and ingredients in both our key export markets as well as emerging and developing markets. In the meeting, Ambassador McKay recognized beef as a key export product from Canada to Japan. The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) trade agreement, of which Canada and Japan are members, continues to bring strong gains for the Canadian beef industry. For the first three months of 2022, Canadian beef exports to Japan rose by 13% in volume and 45% in value compared to the year-earlier period. This follows the strong export gains of Canadian beef exports to Japan in 2021 vs 2020 Back to main page ALBERT ERINGFELD Executive Director, Export Market Development |
