 Outgoing Canada Beef President Michael Young participated in his final Market Development and Promotion Committee (MDPC) meeting in Mississauga on March 27, before officially retiring from his role the next day. The meeting provided an opportunity for the Canadian Beef Check-Off Agency (Agency) and its committee to honour Young for his service to Canada Beef over the last five years and for his overall contribution to the red meat industry throughout a remarkable 45-year career. Russ Mallard (shown far left), chair of the MDPC, which is responsible for the oversight of Canada Beef and ensuring the industry receives strong value from its marketing investment through check-off, along with incoming Canada Beef President Eric Bienvenue (far right) thanked Young (centre) for his dedication and leadership. Young was humbled by the accolades and said the expressions of appreciation for his efforts were truly meaningful. As always, he acknowledged the commitment and hard work of the Canada Beef team in supporting his success. Young brought a sea change to Canada Beef and cultivated meaningful connectivity and collaboration within industry. His capacity to adeptly manage change continued in response to the pandemic as Canada Beef quickly shifted gears to focus on innovations and virtual operations to adjust to the new normal under COVID-19. Agency Chair Jeff Smith presented Young with a silver belt buckle as a show of appreciation from the Agency (photo shown on newsletter homepage). Agency General Manager Melinda German said it has been a genuine pleasure to work with Young for the past five years and that his collaborative style, professionalism, and knowledge has continuously delivered value to Canadian beef producers for the national check-off investments directed to domestic and international marketing and promotion.
