CBCE pivots from in-person to online activities
Until early March 2020, the Canadian Beef Centre of Excellence (CBCE) primarily engaged in live Canadian beef training and promotional events in Canada and in countries around the world. Activities typically included exhibitions and demonstrations at conferences and trade shows; culinary and butchery training sessions for industry and consumers; in-house product development for domestic and international Canadian beef buyers; leading industry tours and demonstrations for visiting delegations from Canadian and international markets.

These in-person events quickly disappeared with the start of the pandemic. CBCE quickly pivoted to offer virtual options and adapted to produce exciting and engaging online alternatives to in-person events.

Embracing the current need for digital training resources and increased distance learning opportunities CBCE developed a sophisticated repertoire of video and photography capabilities to continue to deliver Canadian Beef Advantage messaging to industry and consumer audiences outside the four walls of the Canadian Beef Centre of Excellence.
  • CBCE has created approximately 200 video titles to date, with 85 currently available on cdnbeefperforms.ca, Canada Beef’s new trade website. These videos have been used as educational and promotional tools with trade/industry professionals and consumers as well as in multiple international markets.
  • CBCE engaged with multiple Canadian beef industry partners including distributors, packers, further processors, retail and foodservice operators to build custom Canadian beef videos to supplement marketing programs and build training tools.
  • CBCE developed educational course material, animations and video for a COVID-19 safety training course available to Canadian beef industry professionals and beef enthusiasts through the cdnbeefperforms.ca trade website and CONNECT online training platform. This course has been distributed directly to industry partners including 400 employees at Harmony Beef.
  • CBCE has developed its photography capabilities and captured approximately 100 brand new, mouth-watering still images to update the canadabeef.ca recipe library.
In addition to creating and offering videos, CBCE has produced a number of virtual events including the Sysco Virtual Kitchen where CBCE chefs delivered several live culinary and butchery demonstrations during Sysco’s Virtual Kitchen webinar series, connecting with thousands of audience members through Sysco’s platform (reaching 7500 audience members during August 9, 2020 webinar).

They also delivered a lecture series to the Arabian Food Corporation sales team; delivered a virtual demonstration at the World Food Expo in Manila and delivered a live, online presentation highlighting CBCE video production and its value for foodservice professionals at the Restaurants Canada show.

With this digital expertise, CBCE has greatly increased their ability to offer Canadian beef training and information at home and around the world.
