Canadian beef featured at Canadian Food and Drink Workshop
Canada Beef International Institute (CBII) China participated in the Canadian Food and Drink Promotion Workshop hosted by the Consulate General of Canada in Chongqing on January 13 and 14, 2022.

Two workshops were organized with each workshop targeting 10-15 restaurant operators. The Canadian Consul gave welcoming remarks and discussed the Canadian food ingredients presented at the workshop.

A cooking demonstration and food and drink pairings along with a tasting opportunity were presented by a Canadian chef. The Canadian beef attributes and advantages were introduced by CBII China’s office representative. Canadian AAA ribeye was one of the main ingredients showcased at the cooking demonstration, receiving very positive feedback and interest from participants. Canadian beef brochures, merchandising guides and other materials were displayed and distributed at the workshop.

A total of 28 restaurant operators participated. The workshops provided a great opportunity for the CBII China office to enhance the awareness of Canadian beef with local stakeholders and to develop business opportunities with new foodservice clients in the southwest China market.

COVID-19 Updates
China's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was up 8.1% YOY to USD $18 trillion in 2021, with major indicators reaching and even exceeding the target of 6%, highlighting the strength of the initial stage of China's economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Although China is facing multiple pressures from shrinking demand, supply shock and the impact of the pandemic, China's consumer market in 2021 saw a steady recovery, exhibiting strong vitality and resilience.

Since the fifth wave of the COVID-19 broke out in early January, the epidemic has been developing rapidly in Hong Kong and became severe with an increasing number of infections daily. This outbreak in Hong Kong is at the peak period without any signs of declining. In addition to extending previous social distancing measures, the government has introduced the strictest-ever social distancing policies in an effort to halt the rapid spread of the virus.
