The Taste of Stampede 2026
Canada Beef partnered with Alberta Beef Producers (ABP) to co-sponsor the Alberta Beef Feature Days at the inaugural Taste of Stampede during the 2026 Calgary Stampede. On July 4, 9, and 12, the event celebrated Alberta’s culinary scene and agricultural community and positioned Canadian beef from Alberta as the hero ingredient through chef competitions, live cooking demonstrations, celebrity cook-offs, and consumer engagement.

Canada Beef Director, Consumer Promotions, Kelly Hyde said collaborating with ABP’s Marketing Manager, Katie Songer, at the event was a tremendous opportunity to showcase Canadian beef to consumers. “This initiative, supported through Canada Beef’s Provincial Marketing Alliance, brought together producers, chefs, restaurants, athletes and members of Calgary’s arts community to tell the story of Canadian beef and demonstrate its quality, versatility and flavour. These events demonstrated how collaboration can create meaningful consumer experiences and build appreciation for Canadian beef producers.”

The event took place in a new, state-of-the-art kitchen in the BMO building, which allowed over 250 people to attend each cooking event. Through nine interactive culinary experiences, consumers discovered new ways to prepare and enjoy beef and gained a greater appreciation for the producers, chefs and industry partners that work behind the scenes to bring Canadian beef to the world. A joint Canada Beef and ABP booth offered visitors recipes, educational resources, promotional giveaways and information about the Canadian Beef Information Gateway—the online destination for beef cooking inspiration, cut information, recipes and preparation tips.

A highlight of the Alberta Beef Feature Days was the inaugural Culinary Cup Competition. The event saw many of Calgary’s leading chefs showcase their creativity and technical skill by preparing innovative dishes with beef such as ribs, top sirloin, and bavette to showcase the range and versatility of Canadian beef. The competition culminated on Championship Day, with Duncan Ly (Bar Chouette) defeating Alejandro Buzzalino (Salt & Brick) to capture the title.

The event also connected beef with Calgary’s broader community through two celebrity cook-offs. The July 4 Celebrity Gourmet Tailgate Cook-Off brought together Calgary Stampeders alumni Micah Teitz and René Paredes with chefs from Park by Sidewalk Citizen and Pigeonhole for a spirited Alberta beef competition. The July 9 Fine Dining at Home celebrity cook-off added an artistic twist, pairing Calgary Opera singer Helen Hassinger and Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra principal trumpet Adam Zinatelli with chefs from Teatro and St. Vincent. These events demonstrated how local ingredients like beef can bring people together across sports, arts, culinary and community settings.

Judging was provided by Alberta beef producers Dorothy Thengs (Grace Feedyards Ltd.), Ryan Slenders (Slenders Farms / Milewest Feeders) and Miles Wowk (Wowk Ranch). The producer panel of judges shared insights into animal care and land stewardship to broaden consumer awareness about the care and commitment that goes into producing high-quality Canadian beef.
