![]() Dietitian training course introduces future RDs to Canada Beef Registered Dietitians (RDs) are important professional partners for Canada Beef, serving as influential gatekeepers of nutrition information and dietary guidance. RDs work across a range of sectors including clinical, community, foodservice, research, government, and the media where they directly or indirectly shape consumer perceptions, food policies, and purchasing behaviours. Since 2021, Canada Beef has offered a training course to nutrition students (interns) in their graduating year as they transition to licensed dietitians. Engaging emerging RDs at this stage allows Canada Beef to establish early credibility as a science-based resource and trusted partner. The 90-minute educational program equips interns with the skills to deliver engaging, effective health and cooking information to clients—a core competency for graduation—while also helping them build practical food skills. Presenters use a Canada Beef recipe to demonstrate healthy meal preparation and incorporate key nutrition messages, such as the high prevalence of iron deficiency among Canadian women. New this year, all participating students received access to a replay of the Iron Matters webinar, further amplifying important beef nutrition messages. Twenty universities in Canada offer RD training. This year, 13 universities across Canada participated in the Canada Beef education program, including the University of Toronto, the University of Guelph, St. Xavier University, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Manitoba. Seven of the participating schools made this training mandatory. Over 250 students took part this year, bringing the total number of participants in the last five years to over 1,100. Engaging nutrition interns in their final year fosters early professional relationships with these emerging practitioners and creates long-term awareness of Canada Beef’s programs and resources.
