We teamed up with Canadian Living to work on a set of cozy comfort food recipes designed to encourage families to get into their kitchens and cook together. It was part of the Six by Sixteen initiative that challenges families to teach their children to plan, shop and cook SIX basic meals by the time they are 16 years of age. With the lack of hands-on cooking experiences offered as home ec/foods programs in our schools, learning to cook is a basic life skill that has fallen off The Radar. Being able to cook a wholesome meal for yourself (and others) is fundamental to eating well, managing household spending and building ‘family’. Making and sharing a meal at the table with friends and family is one of life’s daily triumphs.
So please – think of Family Day or Valentine’s or March Break – or whenever, to be a time to get into the kitchen and cook together. These recipes are the perfect starting place — all Family tested in our Facebook Live #CookWithUs event co-hosted with Canadian Living’s own Sandra Martin and the Canadian Beef Centre of Excellence.
